Candidates George, White, and Winteregg Release a Joint Statement Regarding Outside
Money March 7th, 2016 (Troy, OH)

Outsider groups have spent over $1.5 million in the race to replace John Boehner. In what looks to be the most hotly contested Congressional primary in the nation, it has also become one of the most expensive. Three candidates for the seat Scott George, Kevin F. White, and J.D. WInteregg have released a joint statement regarding the amount of outside money entering the race:
We have a unique opportunity this primary to change the conventional wisdom of campaigning for a federal seat. Voters have a number of choices for representatives who represent a number of different ideas; their votes actually matter in this election, and they are able to choose a candidate
based on ideas. Unfortunately, several outside organizations have decided that they want to use this race to push their interests here and in Washington DC. The race to claim the seat John Boehner occupied is a trophy for these outside organizations, and their candidate’s victory serves to drive fundraising into their organizations. While FEC rules state that candidates and PACs may not coordinate, PAC support for a candidate generally happens because the candidate’s views
align with the PACs’ interests. Three candidates in particular have benefitted from this outside money.
Club for Growth has spent over $1 million supporting Warren Davidson in this race. (They have also spent millions in opposition to Donald Trump.) Club for Growth supports the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), and according to the Economic Policy Institute, Ohio ranks in the top 10 in jobs leaving the state for TPP countries due to trade deficits with these countries. We believe that the Club for Growth’s support of over $1 million should raise the question: To whom will Mr. Davidson be beholden in DC? Voters or special interest groups?
The Credit Union National Association and Right Way Initiative, two DC special interest groups, have spent nearly $500,000 in support of Tim Derickson and only Derickson. Endorsed by the Cincinnati Enquirer as a moderate Republican in the most conservative district in the state, Derickson also supported Obamacare Medicaid expansion funding in the Statehouse. We believe it’s important to ask: To whom will Tim Derickson be beholden in DC? Will he have the backbone to stand for our conservative values?
Congressman Mike Turner quickly endorsed State Senator Bill Beagle, and Turner is a member of the Republican Mainstreet Partnership PAC. Defending Main Street PAC, a branch of this organization, has spent close to $120,000 in opposition to a candidate a move that benefits Beagle. Defending Main Street PAC has accepted donations from numerous Democrat supporting organizations, and Beagle has also voted to support Obamacare Medicaid expansion funding at the Statehouse. It’s imperative to ask: To whom will Bill Beagle be beholden in DC? We believe the voter has a great opportunity to send the lobbyists, corporate cronies, and Establishment in DC a message: we will choose our candidate, not you. We encourage you the voter to consider one of the three of us as the best alternative to the Establishment, special interest supported candidates in this race. By electing one of us to this seat, we will have a representative who truly represents the voters and no one else.
